About this Report

DivTech Insights is proud to issue this first of many publications to increase diversity in technology organizations. The report brought together practitioner and academic sources to produce recommendations that will have real-world implications.

The first set of recommendations generated from this report include:

Business Structure

  • Develop a formal diversity statement on the website and in the office, and review the information once per year. 

  • Hire a senior-level diversity manager focused on organizational strategy, diverse workforce hiring, development, and retention. 

  • Create an employee diversity council with representation from groups based on race, gender, sexual identity, and experience level to make recommendations for improving diverse recruiting.

Business Operations

  • Review resumes anonymously during the application evaluation process.

  • Interview applicants to see if their values connect with the company’s mission, vision, and values, keeping in mind the importance of diversity in these areas.

  • Create safe spaces and safe places for dealing with internal conflicts, such as micro-aggressions. 

Business Policies

  • Construct clear, accountable metrics of responsibility into your bias reporting mechanisms.

  • Outline engagement policies that encourage input for diverse recruiting efforts. 

  • Review diversity policies annually.

Business Strategy

  • Create internships and related programs.

  • Establish long-term ties with vocational and trade institutions and fund intercultural activities.

  • Publicize diverse hiring metrics on your website to showcase the progress and weakness in key recruiting areas.

Business Research

  • Conduct annual research on the perception of employees in terms of how included they feel within the organization. 

  • Conduct quarterly management surveys to ensure they know about any updates to diversity policy, recruiting or other related areas. 

  • Share knowledge and best practices with other businesses to help increase diverse hiring efforts.

Future editions of this report will be offered via a subscription-based model. As research is very expensive to produce, we rely on our supporters to help keep this important work going.
